When traveling as a family, the choice of accommodation is one of the most important points. In Gerês the offer is vast, and in recent years incredible projects have emerged! From hotels with various services and facilities, to charming cottages and bungalows, the offer is vast. We present 3 very different references, but all of them complementary, and have also taken into account different budgets but privileging the best quality/price ratio.
1) Águas do Gerês – Hotel, Termas & Spa
If you are looking for the ultimate in comfort and facilities, with various stay packages and all inclusive, this is the hotel for you. It has a restaurant, swimming pools, spa, thermal baths, nature activities, and is located in the heart of Vila do Gerês, where you can find restaurants, stores, entertainment, cafes, ice cream parlors, among others. The Thermal Park is perfect to enjoy with the family, right next to the Hotel. Nature, caves, lakes, boats and activities that allow you to spend a whole morning or afternoon relaxing in full harmony with the nature of Gerês.
2) Carqueijais Farm
This location is a dream come true. And clearly the premium option we present here. Its front neighbor is the Caniçada Dam and, all around, the mountains and valleys of a paradise called the Peneda-Gerês National Park. Six villas await you, fully equipped and designed with the comfort and well-being of families and small groups in mind. From the most modern to the most rustic, all villas feature high levels of comfort as well as privacy (this is definitely a point in favor, it’s super private). The good news is that not being a large development (they only have 6 villas), they have partnerships and provide a range of experiences, which you can enjoy with your family without leaving your villa.
3) Parque de Campismo da Cerdeira – Tent or Bungalow
If the idea is the adventure of camping in Gerês with the family, then Parque de Campismo da Cerdeira is the suggestion! Here you can pitch your tent in the shade of oak trees with centuries of stories to tell and enjoy the days hiking, diving or doing nature activities. As an alternative to tents, Parque Cerdeira offers 12 modern bungalows that will make you feel at home. The Parque Cerdeira Bungalows have central heating and are fully equipped and furnished to have a stay in comfort and harmony with the nature that surrounds them.
In the heart of the Peneda Gerês National Park, the Cerdeira Park is located a few meters from the Albufeira de Vilarinho da Furna and the Roman Geira, must-see places for anyone passing through the Gerês countryside and visiting the Park (the Geira Romana trail is in fact one of the most beautiful and accessible trails in Gerês). It is the oldest campsite in Gerês and has a varied program of activities throughout the year. This campsite is great for families due to the diversity of services and facilities: wi-fi, laundry, mini-market, outdoor pool, activity park, soccer and tennis field, and one of the best restaurants in the region! It is the perfect base to set off on an adventure and explore the immense natural wealth of Gerês’ superb landscapes.
